Motorola Loves Mid-Range: We've Got a New Pop-Up Selfie Phone!

Motorola One Hyper With 64-Megapixel Camera, 45W Hyper Charge Support Launched: Price, Specifications

The phone has a 6.5-inch Total Vision display with a 2340 x 1080 resolution and a 90% screen-to-body ratio. Both the rear and front cameras are capable of seeing in the dark thanks to Night Vision technology, although something tells us this functionality will not be as impressive as Google's Night Sight or iPhone's Night Mode. There's also a notification light on the back. This way, it can keep the One Hyper's price down, but also offer it with a full 12-month warranty.

The Moto One Hyper is the newest phone in Moto's rapidly growing lineup of "motorolaone" series smartphones, and unlike the other phones in the family, this one is a little more about specifications than edge case photography (though it does have a 64MP rear camera). The Motorola One Hyper is compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile's 4G LTE networks in the United States, but it won't be sold through either carrier, only unlocked from the phone-maker itself. Under the gradient body is a Snapdragon 675 processor and it has been paired with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The phone will work on GSM-based cellular networks like the ones operated by AT&T and T-Mobile. If you get tone right now, your only option is the Blue Ocean color. On the front, the slide-up selfie cam packs a 32-megapixel sensor (or 8-megapixel Quad Pixel, to be technically accurate). A stylish design meets a suite of specs that are created to get you through the day without a lot of extra fuss, excluding that pop-up camera of course. You can customize these light ring alerts. Outside the US - the Motorola One Hyper is also coming to Latin America and parts of Europe - there will be a Fresh Orchid color. It also has an audio jack, Dolby Audio, and a USB Type-C port.

The front-facing camera is a pop-up, a lot like the one on the OnePlus 7 Pro; twist your wrist in the traditional Motorola way, and it pops up. As mentioned earlier, the phone has a 32MP pop-up selfie camera, which uses 4-in-1 pixel binning to capture 8MP stills.

The main camera is joined by a 8-MP wide-angle lens with a 118-degree field of view. The same chipset is also powering the Vivo U20 phone.

I have my doubts Motorola well sell many Hypers to American buyers, as this kind of truly "mid-range" phone just doesn't make as much sense in the US.

There's a 4,000 mAh battery inside the Motorola One Hyper, so we're expecting lots of battery life, especially since Motorola has a good track record of producing long-lasting budget and midtier devices.

Motorola may be charging back into the premium phone game with 5G connectivity and foldable phones in 2020, but here at the end of 2019, it's got one more midrange deal waiting in the wings.

"We're going for that consumer that typically, they shop on Amazon for something that is great looking with great specs, and this will be the device for them", said Motorola head of product operations Doug Michau.

Beyond the cameras, the Motorola One Hyper is basically a recipe for hitting an affordable price point.
