Montreal faces Philadelphia on 5-game home slide

Finishing off the second half of a back-to-back, the Philadelphia Flyers visited the Centre Bell to take on the Montreal Canadiens.

LAST 10 GAMES: Flyers: 5-2-3, averaging 2.7 goals, 4.7 assists, 2.8 penalties and 5.8 penalty minutes while allowing 2.1 goals per game with a.927 save percentage. Keith Kinkaid stopped 25 shots. Philippe Myers also entered the lineup for Robert Hagg after sitting in the press box on Friday.

TOP PERFORMER: Tomas Tatar leads the Canadians with 22 points, scored seven goals and recorded 15 assists.

Of course, the Canadiens might have been a little frustrated because Philadelphia goaltender Brian Elliott turned in an outstanding performance. The veteran netminder did a good job of settling in as the period went on, though, saving the other eight shots he saw to keep Philadelphia within one after one.

Provorov, of Russian Federation, scored his sixth goal of the season while Oskar Lindblom, Kevin Hayes and Travis Konecny also scored goals in front of the crowd of 21,200 at the Bell Centre arena in Quebec. Shea Weber has collected 10 points over the last 10 games for Montreal. Oskar Lindblom leads the Flyers in goals with 9 on the season. The teams split the previous two, both games played in Montreal. Detroit cashed in on the second of those opportunities, jumping out to a 1-0 lead on a Robby Fabbri power-play goal at 11:47.

Defenceman Ivan Provorov was the overtime hero, beating Kinkaid 31 seconds into the extra frame with a nifty dangle around Max Domi in the offensive zone.

Among my list of standouts, I have to put Hayes on here. So has Price, who ranked 44th in the National Hockey League in goals-against average (3.19) and 41st in save percentage (.897) after Thursday's loss, which dropped his record to 10-8-3.

The teams exchanged three goals in a 72-second span in the second period.

Additionally, the Provorov and Matt Niskanen pairing were nothing short of stellar for the Flyers yet again.

The Canadiens answered back less than two minutes later through Tatar's second of the contest, 11 seconds into Provorov's tripping penalty.

"If it was quickly, it would have been done after one game, not six", head coach Claude Julien said Friday when asked if there was any quick fix.

Lastly, but certainly not least-ly, how could I not mention Elliott as a standout? He wasn't bad but, at the same time, he didn't make any game-saving stops and he gave up four goals for the fifth time in as many starts. Elliott ended the twilight, night, whatever you'd call it saving 39 shots on 42 attempts, putting together another solid showing between the pipes for the Orange and Black. Next game is Tuesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
