Jürgen Klopp signs Liverpool contract extension to 2024

Jürgen Klopp extended his contract as Liverpool manager until 2024, the Premier League club said Friday, in a further boost to its bid to become English champion for the first time in 30 years.

"I've been lucky and privileged to play for this club for four-and-a-half years now, it has been an incredible time seeing how the club is changing and developing", Milner told Liverpoolfc.com.

In a social media post from Liverpool's official account, the German manager made the announcement himself via a short video.

"So these players need a perspective and they need to feel "if I go to Liverpool then I have the best chance compared to all the other top six clubs", for example, to make my first steps in the Premier League".

"In the moment we have four fantastic players really close to the first team: Rhian Brewster, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Neco Williams, plus we have Caoimhin [Kelleher] as a goalkeeper", he told the club's website.

"People see what happens on the pitch as a measure of our progress and although it is the best measure, it's not the only measure".

"When the call came in autumn 2015, I felt we were flawless for each other", said Klopp, who previously coached Borussia Dortmund.

"If I didn't, I would not be re-signing".

"Like I said, there's a long, long way to go, but we'll keep striving to keep improving and getting success for this club".

Milner's extension will swiftly put-to-bed any rumours linking the midfielder with a move away from Merseyside after it appeared the Reds No.7 may have been open to a return to former club Leeds United - should they gain promotion to the Premier League.

Despite speculation suggesting that he would stand down when his existing deal expired in 2022, Klopp has agreed to extend his stay further.

"For anyone in football who aspires to compete in an environment where every element of the organisation is at its very best - from the support of the supporters to the vision of the owners - there can be no better place than this".
