George Zimmerman Files $100 Million Suit Against Trayvon Martin’s Parents

Trayvon Martin was killed by George Zimmerman in 2012. Zimmerman is suing Martin's family

Also included: several Florida prosecutors, the state of Florida and its law enforcement department - and HarperCollins, which recently published Open Season, Crump's book about violence toward black people.

The lawsuit accuses Martin's parents and the family's attorney Benjamin Crump of orchestrating a campaign to force Brittany Diamond Eugene, 16, who was reportedly Martin's girlfriend, to make a recorded statement that implicated Zimmerman as the aggressor in the altercation with Martin.

In 2018, Zimmerman was charged with the stalking of a private investigator who was working with Jay-Z and filmmaker Michael Gasparro on the documentary Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story. It alleges that 18-year-old Rachel Jeantel came forward two weeks later to tell prosecutors that she was Diamond Eugene and had "provided false statements to incriminate Zimmerman based on coaching from others".

According to the Chicago Defender, Zimmerman filed a lawsuit against Martin's parents and Ben Crump. These same allegations are espoused in Joel Gilbert's book and film titled The Trayvon Hoax: Unmasking the Witness Fraud that Divided America. Zimmerman confronted Martin as Martin was walking through a gated community at night, and fatally shot him during the ensuing fight.

Zimmerman wasn't initially arrested in the case, due to Florida's "Stand Your Ground" laws.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday in Polk County Circuit Court seeks $100million in civil damages for defamation, abuse of civil process and conspiracy.

"The plaintiff continues to display a callous disregard for everyone but himself, revictimizing individuals whose lives were shattered by his own misguided actions", Crump, who is also listed as a defendant in the lawsuit, wrote in a statement. "In 2015, a man named Matthew Apperson attempted to murder Zimmerman by shooting a bullet at him that missed his head by inches".

"This tale defies all logic, and it's time to close the door on these baseless imaginings", Crump added. She didn't want to testify that she was speaking to Martin before his death, so Jeantel pretended that she was talking to the teen, The Associated Press reported.

Zimmerman has obtained the legal counsel of Larry Klayman, a high-profile lawyer linked to conservative causes and the founder of Judicial Watch before parting ways with the conservative activist group.

"Coral Gables Art Cinema was not aware of all of the details surrounding this event and has made a decision to cancel it", the theater tweeted.

Crump said, "He would have us believe that he is the innocent victim of a deep conspiracy, despite the complete lack of any credible evidence to support his outlandish claims".
