Fox Plans New Return to 'Planet of the Apes'

New ‘Planet Of The Apes’ Movie In Early Development At 20th Century Fox With Director Wes Ball

A new Planet of the Apes film will be developed and directed by Wes Ball. "It is unclear whether the latest Apes project is meant to be a new reboot or an extension of the previous film series".

And this is something which Disney firmly agrees with as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that director Wes Ball (The Maze Runner trilogy) is now working on a new Planet of the Apes movie.

Maze Runner's Wes Ball is expected to be in the director's chair of the next chapter as Disney CEO Bob Iger is apparently eager to further expand the franchise.

Since Disney acquired FOX earlier this year for $73.1 billion, it now owns many other established franchises under its umbrella. But, in the end, he discovers that he is actually on planet Earth, which suffered an apocalyptic nuclear war.

However, the reboot trilogy, which kicked off with 2011's "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" and starred James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, and Andy Serkis, was a huge critical and commercial success.

A new report has revealed that another Planet of the Apes movie is in the works, and its director will be the man behind the camera for The Maze Runner. Or, if need be, make another movie that shows the progression of the ape society as we saw it in the last film. However, it appears like the thing to do now would be a franchise reboot that jumps forward to something more like the original film. Then again, it's also entirely possible that he and the studio will chose to continue the story Reeves set up - perhaps with one of Caesar's children as the main focus of the film?
