Boy killed in auto crash outside British school, five others injured

A 51-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after his auto mounted the pavement outside a secondary school in Essex, killing a 12-year-old boy and injuring five other children.

Emergency services were called to Willingale Road, close to Debden Park High School, at around 3.30pm today.

Police said they were looking to trace a silver Ford Ka.

Two boys, aged 15, a 13-year-old boy, a girl, 16, and a 53-year-old woman were also hurt in the crash.

A 12-year-old boy was taken to hospital where he died.

Head teacher Helen Gascoyne said the school had been "devastated" by the death of one of its students and that pupils would be offered counselling on Tuesday.

One man, whose daughter was hit by the auto, said: 'A Ford Ka mounted the pavement behind her. The vehicle then drove off down the road and the police arrived quickly.' He added: 'It was bad. She got clipped by the wing mirror but is safe.

"It was terrible to witness". Everyone is in shock'.

Essex Police confirmed they're on the scene, on Twitter it mentioned: 'We're at present on the scene of a severe collision on Willingale Highway, #Loughton.

"Our thoughts are with the family and all those affected".

"We are investigating whether or not this incident may have been connected with another incident nearby".

"The school will be open on Tuesday with a number of counsellors on hand to support the community".

The arrest came after police earlier said they were searching for Loughton man Terry Glover over the incident.

Essex Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit Inspector Rob Brettell appealed to the public to provide any dashcam or CCTV footage they have of the area.

Essex Police said there was likely to be a "serious and prolonged investigation" and asked the public not to speculate on the circumstances.
