Amazon's 'Lord of the Rings' TV Series Loses Star Will Poulter

Will Poulter Drops Out of Amazon'Lord of the Rings Series

The Lord of the Rings series is produced by Amazon Studios.

Even in the world of prestige television series and big budget, the show Lord Of The Rings of Amazon has been a project wrapped in secrecy.

Variety is reporting that Will Poulter has dropped out of The Lord of the Rings TV series from Amazon due to scheduling conflicts, according to sources familiar with development on the show. Other actors now attached to the project include Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Maxim Baldry, and Ema Horvath.

The streamer just lately moved forward with an early Season 2 renewal for the sprawling adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy novels. Cost estimates suggest Amazon's TV series will be the most expensive show ever produced, with a cost estimate of Dollars 1.3 billion. The show's core cast, which has yet to be confirmed by Amazon, includes Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh and Joseph Mawle.

The "Lord of the Rings" series is being developed by the writing team of JD Payne and Patrick McKay.

The streaming service confirmed to Deadline that the sequel is in the works and that the hotly-anticipated show will go on a hiatus for around four months after filming the first two season one episodes, which will be directed by J.A. Bayona. Amazon has committed to producing at least five seasons of the prequel, though, and it's understood that the action will take place in the "Second Age" of Tolkien's universe. The show is set during the 3,441-year period, known as the Age of Númenor, or the Second Age, long before the events of The Fellowship of The Ring.
