Yooka-Laylee dev squashes rumors of work on new Banjo-Kazooie

The studio behind Yooka-Laylee is “not at all working on the Banjo-Kazooie IP”

According to Playtonic, the studio has been swarmed with mentions about them working on a new installment in the dormant Banjo Kazooie franchise.

Playtonic Games has addressed a rumor suggesting it's working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game for Project Scarlett, saying that it isn't helping with development on a new entry in the legendary series.

Those hopeful fans who were banking on a rumor that the folks at PlayTonic were going back to the Banjo-Kazooie were in for a taste of disappointment today.

So, that's it: Playtonic Games is not joining Xbox Game Studios and, most importantly, is not working on a new Banjo-Kazooie game. Contemplating how a lot of a shopping for spree Microsoft has been on recently, choosing up studios corresponding to Ninja Principle, Obsidian Leisure, and Double Nice, this will likely come as a little bit of a aid to some.

The rumours appear to have started soon after it was revealed that former Rare artist Ed Bryan had joined Playtonic.

Alas, it was not meant to be.

Right now, however, they're focused on making new experiences for fans, like Yooka-Laylee and The Impossible Lair, which we received earlier this year.

One fan did try and suggest that Playtonic's wording of "new Banjo-Kazooie game" meant that there was still a chance it's secretly working on a remake, but Playtonic nearly immediately nipped that in the bud with, 'We're not at all working on the Banjo-Kazooie IP'. The characters don't have a new game of their own to speak to, but they have made appearances in other games, such as Super Smash Bros Ultimate as a DLC character and via a special pirate ship in Sea of Thieves.
