WhatsApp adds shopping catalog feature, courting e-commerce

WhatsApp adds shopping catalogue feature on its app for businesses

For the same reason, WhatsApp Business is gaining more acceptability among small businesses in many countries, if not worldwide.

Catalogs are available now for Android and iOS in the United States, the UK, India, Germany, Indonesia, Brazil and Mexico, and WhatsApp says it intends to roll them out worldwide in the near future.

The social media company, on Thursday, announced the launching of a Catalog feature for the WhatsApp Business app, which will enable retailers and small businesses to showcase photographs of their products or services to potential customers on the platform.

As part of the catalogs, businesses can add information of products such as images, name, price, description and link.

WhatsApp also put up a tutorial video of sorts to make it easier for business to create their Catalogs right away. "We gave the founder Andhika Mahardika early access to the catalog feature, and he told us that it makes it easier for customers to learn about their products, know the prices and view the images of what they offer - which is essential for serving their customers better" said the company speaking about the new feature. In a nutshell, catalogs are for businesses to create and showcase their products and services.

Previously, business users who use the WhatsApp Business app had to send photos of their products and services one at a time to provide information that will lure customers to buy their products. If you add products catalogues to your WhatsApp Business profile, it will allow customers to see most of the details about your product right inside the app.

You will be redirected to the Catalog page. Adding this, customers do not need to go to the website to check the details of the products. It is now rolling out in Brazil, Germany, India, Indonesia, Mexico, the United Kingdom, and the US. Other regions will get the update soon, Facebook said. WhatsApp Business app hosts these catalogs to save the internal storage space on the phones of both the business users and their customers. There you will find the Catalog option.
