Shuhei Yoshida Isn't Sony's Head Of Worldwide Studios Anymore

Guerrilla Games boss is new PlayStation head of worldwide studios

There's still a bunch of time to go until the official debut of PlayStation 5, so stay tuned for more rumors, hardware specs and comparisons with Microsoft's Project Scarlett. Yoshida will step down from his role as head of Sony Worldwide Studios and will be replaced by Guerrilla Games' Hermen Hulst.

Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO Jim Ryan couched these moves around Worldwide Studios as critical to the overall success of Sony and added that they're meant to "deliver on the promise we have made to gamers, to create imaginative and exciting content that is truly unique to PlayStation".

Even so, there's no doubt that PlayStation Now is going to be a huge focus for Sony as the company transitions to the next generation.

Whilst the shakeups at Sony may perhaps come as a shock, they appear to be to stage to usual restructuring main up to the PlayStation 5's start.

Ryan cites how this approach changes the way the company markets games.

"That's where we stand right now", Ryan said.

Ryan told GI: "The nature of AAA PlayStation 4 and certainly PlayStation 5 development..."

"I have worked closely with PlayStation and the entire Worldwide Studios family since 2001, and I have the utmost respect and admiration for the creative talent and ambitious ideas within the network of studios across the US, Europe, and Japan", said Hulst. He was also an executive producer on many classic PlayStation franchises, including Ape Escape and Gran Turismo.

In his new role at PlayStation, Hulst will be involved with the output of major players such as Naughty Dog, Bend, Sucker Punch and Sony Santa Monica. "If we are nimble, flexible and global, we can work with smaller developers to allow those countries' specific needs to be met". I am going to give you some examples.

PlayStation was well known to be a big supporter of indie games, especially during the PS3 era, where games such as Journey, Flower, and The Unfinished Swan could prosper. "It was one global campaign conceived and executed in an outstanding manner, as opposed to three different regional campaigns that are often executed very well, but the same thing in essence done three times". "We have one conversation and we get on and do stuff".
