Russia, Norway & Lithuania conduct exchange of spies

Lithuania Norway Swap Spies With Russia At Border In Cold War-Style

Two Russians jailed for espionage have been pardoned and freed in Lithuania, in exchange for two Lithuanians and a Norwegian held in Russia.

It said on Friday that after Lithuania's move, Moscow will be expected in return to pardon two Lithuanians, who were jailed for espionage in 2016.

Authorities in the three countries have either declined to comment on the BNS report or denied it.

According to Head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin, Moscow will respond in kind, however, he didn't elaborate.

Lithuanian media said last month that discussions were under way on exchanging two Russians jailed in Lithuania, two Lithuanians sentenced for spying in Russia and a Norwegian jailed in Russia for spying.

The Lithuanian president's security adviser announced the three-way swap had taken place at the Lithuanian border after a complex operation.

The same agreement could also see Russian Federation release a Norwegian border guard, Frode Berg, who has been convicted of similar charges. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
