Ohio State’s Chase Young out vs. Maryland over possible NCAA violation

Chase Young Suspension

Ohio State star Chase Young will not play Saturday against Maryland as the athletics department investigates a possible NCAA violation, the school said in a statement.

Buckeyes junior defensive end Chase Young is suspended indefinitely and immediately, beginning with this Saturday's contest against Maryland, according to Letterman Row, which first reported the news.

That statement did not elaborate on the nature of the issue or the potential length of Young's absence.

Young, who has 13.5 sacks this season, is perhaps the most dominant football player in college football and is in the conversation for being the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft.

No. 1 Ohio State travels to SHI Stadium a week from Saturday to face the Scarlet Knights, the final tune-up before a brutal two-game stretch - against No. 4 Penn State and at MI - to end the season. The junior was a preseason AP All-American and is projected to be one of the first players taken in next year's National Football League draft. The Buckeyes are a 43.5-point favorite against Maryland, but still have key games remaining against unbeaten Penn State on November 23 and arch-rival MI on November 30. Rob Mullens, chair of the CFP selection committee, mentioned Young by name as "probably the best defensive player in the country" when explaining why the Buckeyes' dominance on both sides of the ball warranted the top spot.

He has tied Ohio State's single-game records for sacks (four) and tackles for loss (five) in the Buckeyes 38-7 win over Wisconsin.
