National Basketball Association fines Clippers $fifty,000 for statements about Leonard

NBA notebook League reportedly OK that Leonard sits

Ohm Youngmisuk has covered the Giants, Jets and the National Football League since 2006. He's also the first player in National Basketball Association history to tally at least 150 points, 80 rebounds and 40 assists in the first six games of a season. The NBA made it clear that the Clippers were compliant with league rules and the team's decision to sit the All-Star for load management of a knee injury.

Kawhi Leonard has been taking "load management" nights off and the return of George will help mitigate the Clippers' drop-off in those games.

But Rivers was asked several questions before the game about Leonard and his health.

However, hours later during his pregame remarks, Rivers said there was "no concern" about the forward's health, a comment that appeared to undercut the league's stance about the severity of Leonard's injury. "The league office, in consultation with the NBA's director of sports medicine, is comfortable with team medical staff's determination that Leonard is not sufficiently healthy to play in back-to-back games at this time". He's averaging almost 30 points per game, 7.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game.

This was the second time in a week that Leonard was inactive for a game; like the first occasion, the sitdown came on the first night of a back-to-back. He is expected to play tonight against the Portland Trail Blazers. He did not play in a 129-124 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks - a game that was nationally televised by ESPN.

"He feels great", Rivers said Wednesday. It's our job to make sure he stays that way. And that's important. But he played a lot of minutes in the playoffs past year. "We want him to just keep feeling better and getting better".
