Heat guard Dion Waiters had panic attack after consuming edible, sources say

Goran Dragic Erik Spoelstra Dion Waiters Heat

Local 10 sports has learned that Waiters did return to South Florida with the team and is said to be doing OK.

ESPN sources said Waiters was unfamiliar with the edible and was seeking relief for a stomachache that kept him out of Miami's Thursday night game in Phoenix.

A report surfaced during Friday night's game, from a Miami radio personality, that Waiters had overdosed on "gummies" - we can assume these are THC-laced edibles - and had a seizure when he woke up. So instead of me joining the circus I told myself you from (Philly) you've been through worst s- in your life than this.

It was not clear whether the reference was to cannabis, which is widely available in Denver, where the Heat began their three-game trip Tuesday with a loss to the Denver Nuggets.

The Heat haven't offered much clarification to set the record straight.

Waiters has had a tough month battling his way back to game shape after the Heat concluded that he hadn't met their conditioning requirements for playing time in the regular season.

"Please don't believe the rumors the media will report fake news to get clicks and likes", Waiters' mom, Monique Brown, wrote on Instagram Saturday following news the Heat player had a seizure on the team plane Thursday after eating too many sweets. The Heat lost on Friday night to the Lakers, and Waiters did not play due to illness. Although his numbers of slightly dipped, Waiters was known as an effective scorer and dropped major buckets for the Heat in preseason lay.

He is in the 3rd year of a four-year, $52 million contract. "So I promise myself I would work my a- off & get back to where I was before the injury".
