Conflicting reports on Matthew Stafford's health heading into Week 10

Though it's been a rough stretch for Mitch Trubisky and the Bears Lions coach Matt Patricia isn't overlooking the Chicago quarterback

ESPN and NFL Network reported Sunday morning that Stafford will not play in today's game against the Chicago Bears because of a back injury.

Stafford has fractured bones in his back, and doctors did not let him play, a source told ESPN.

For the past few weeks, Stafford has been dealing with a back injury that has kept his name on the team's injury report every week.

Jeff Driskell is set to start in his place, the last Lions' QB to start a game other than Stafford was Shaun Hill, in Week 17 of the 2010 season. He signed with the Lions in September.

Driskel, the subject of interest from at least one team at last month's trade deadline, made five starts for the Cincinnati Bengals previous year, completing 59.7% of his passes and throwing six touchdown passes against two interceptions.

Stafford had been playing through pain in his back all season thanks to an injury that reportedly bothered him a year ago, too.

Asked about the injury Wednesday, Stafford said he was "fine".

Before he was ruled out for the Chicago game in Week 10, Stafford had been listed as questionable on Detroit's injury report five times dating back to last season.

NFL Media noted that a big hit Stafford took in the Lions' Week 9 loss to the Raiders could have been the shot that made him unable to keep playing through the injury. I'm not really anxious about it.

What is Matthew Stafford's injury? "I'll be good to go".

Matthew Stafford has been healthy throughout the season.

Stafford's last missed start came 3,234 days ago, on January 2, 2011.
