Gareth Southgate watches on Wednesday morning as his squad train ahead of the game with Montenegro

"We are always learning about the players more in the really big matches and the really high-pressure games", Southgate said.

The 49-year-old praised the quality of midfielders available to England's European rivals ahead of Thursday's win over Montenegro, and is fearful his team could be exposed by top-quality opposition next summer.

Harry Kane has urged fans not to boo any England players after Joe Gomez was jeered in the 7-0 win against Montenegro at Wembley on Thursday.

After the clash with Montenegro Raheem Sterling would condemn those who booed the Liverpool defender.

Southgate has been looking to play 4-3-3 ever since the World Cup but recently admitted that he might have to revert to three at the back because England can not get enough midfield control.

He was involved in multiple discussions after the incident and is pleased with how everything was handled before Southgate's side clinched their place at Euro 2020.

With three group games and a possible semi-final and final at Wembley, Euro 2020 is nearly a home tournament for England and Abraham is confident Southgate's men can get their hands on the silverware. "The gifts we handed to the English team shouldn't happen at this level".

'I don't remember Euro 96, I wasn't born, but hopefully we can make it a great occasion.

The Telegraph report that Gomez was "devastated" after being booed and that his teammates were both stunned and angry as the booing could be heard as Gomez was warming up to get ready.

"So, yes, I'm hugely disappointed for him, but he's got the support of all of us - the whole dressing room, totally united".

He explained: "The gaffer spoke to me and some of the other senior players in the group and that is the decision we came to".

Chelsea's Abraham agreed, telling reporters: "We're all England, if we're players or fans".

Asked whether he will speak to Gomez about the issue, Southgate said: "Absolutely".

"He's been good around camp, he's been training really well".

"Again, first and foremost, the whole dressing room are disappointed with it because the dressing room are tight, every one of them".

Kane called on supporters not to heckle Gomez or Sterling against Kosovo and expressed gratitude to Jordan Henderson for helping him through one of his most challenging weeks as captain.

"He's got to feel the support of everybody, which he has, completely".

"Him and Raheem are very close and the whole team are very close so we don't want to see anybody treated that way".
