UK PM Johnson Urges Trump to Reconsider US Crash Case Stance

Trump says he will speak to wife of US diplomat involved in fatal UK crash

President Donald Trump says he's planning to get involved in the case of an American diplomat's wife who left the United Kingdom after becoming a suspect in a fatal wrong-way crash.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has urged President Donald Trump to reconsider a decision to let a U.S. diplomat's wife use diplomatic immunity after she was involved in a fatal vehicle crash in England and then left the country.

"We're going to speak to her and see what we can come up with to do some healing", Trump said an unrelated White House press conference.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday addressed the death of a British teen allegedly killed in a crash with a auto driven by the spouse of a USA diplomat, telling reporters that he had discussed the matter with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson in a phone call.

The woman, who is 42, is protected by diplomatic immunity because of her position.

Johnson has said he hoped the diplomat's wife, Anne Sacoolas, would choose to return to Britain to engage with investigators.

Trump, who was asked about the case during an executive order signing, said the issue was "very, very complex". Dunn's parents told NBC News they were informed that the diplomat's spouse had gone back to the US when they had a meeting with the police a couple of days after their son's funeral, which has left them "in shock".

"You have two wonderful parents that lost their son".

Both leaders have agreed to work together to "find a way forward as soon as possible".

The parents of Harry Dunn are planning to sue the wife of an American intelligence agent who allegedly killed him in the United States courts where diplomatic immunity does not apply.
