Steelers QB Mason Rudolph (concussion) limited participant in practice

Despite disappointing loss in Week 5 Chargers favored over Steelers

"Obviously I won't have a lot of detail in terms of where he is in the protocol or speculation what that is and the timetable of it, because I've been at this long enough to know that I'm not a medical expert", Tomlin told reporters Tuesday. If that step goes well without symptoms surfacing, then Rudolph would have a chance to be cleared to play.

Wideout JuJu Smith-Schuster has team-leading totals in receptions (24), targets (34) and receiving yards (333) for the Steelers (1-4), who visit the Los Angeles Chargers (2-3) on Sunday night.

Given the scary nature of his injury from Sunday's game when Earl Thomas hit him helmet-to-helmet and left him unconscious on the field for a length period of time, Rudolph's ability to be back at practice is good indication he'll be able to return to the field sooner rather than later.

"Mason, he's been telling me he's feeling really well", quarterback Devlin Hodges said after practice.

He was replaced in the game by Devlin Hodges, the undrafted free agent quarterback who completed 7 of 9 passes for 68 yards and ran the ball twice for 20 yards in his National Football League debut. Pittsburgh won on a touchdown on the final snap.

"I believe that he is", said Tomlin.

While Rudolph's status is uncertain, running back Jaylen Samuels' is not. Rookie Benny Snell Jr. will serve as James Conner's primary backup against the Chargers. This guy is making tackles and it has been really impressive. "He will probably get an opportunity to get some more exposure there because of the injury to Jaylen and I am sure he will be excited about it".
