Samuel Adams’ Halloween beer is illegal in 15 states

Samuel Adams released its new batch of seasonal Utopias beers which have an ABV at 28 percent

According to the beermaker, only 77 wooden casks of Utopias were brewed this year, and it will be available for the first time in the Samuel Adams Cincinnati Taproom on November 15. Due to the drink's high level of alcohol, it's actually illegal in 15 states.

A Samuel Adams Halloween Brew is so scary that it's illegal here in Vermont and New Hampshire among other states.

The beer also claims to have an ABV (alcohol by volume) of 28%, significantly higher than the average beer (which is usually lower than 10%). For example, according to Consumer Reports, the ABV limit for a bottle of beer in Utah is just 4 percent, which has just recently increased from 3.2 percent.

Samuel Adams describes the taste as "deep, rich, malty, smoothness reminiscent of a vintage port, cognac or fine sherry".

The first bottles of Utopias will be shared with Samuel Adams coworkers, with each numbered with the digits that correspond to their hiring date.

According to Forbes, this is Samuel Adams' 11th batch of the Utopias line, which they've been offering in limited releases since 2002.

Jim Kock, founder and brewer, said in a statement: "Since it was first brewed, Sam Adams Utopias has been nothing short of a labor of love".

The Halloween beer's price tag is pretty scary too.
