PM Imran assures Erdogan of Pakistan’s support, solidarity over Turkey's Syria operation

Map Syria shows the latest areas of control by Pro-Assad Kurdish Islamic State and Free Syrian Army forces

Residents fled with their belongings loaded into cars, utes and motorcycle rickshaws, while others escaped on foot.

They have been followed by dozens of humanitarian workers, who have been told to leave by their organisations.

It was a wrenchingly familiar scene for many who had fled the militants of the Islamic State (IS) group only a few years ago.

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican who usually backs Trump, has been one of the most outspoken critics of the U.S. troop withdrawal.

"I hope we can mediate", Trump said when asked about the options by reporters at the White House. Trump came under fire from supporters and detractors alike for abandoning the Kurdish allies against IS in Syria.

"We warned them, [for a] long time, not to experiment with that, and not to try to count Arab tribes that lived initially in that area to be Kurdish", he said.

U.S. officials confirmed the president had ordered the military to not get involved in the Turkish strikes, which have killed seven civilians since Wednesday.

Turkey has said that Operation Peace Spring, which began on Wednesday, is aimed at creating the so-called safe zone near the Syrian-Turkish border.

In a later report they said that seven members of the pro-Turkish forces had been killed as the SDF retook a village in Tal Abyad region, one of them a Turkish soldier.

In a tweet, she called for Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to "face serious consequences for mercilessly attacking our Kurdish allies in northern Syria".

He did not elaborate, and reports from the area did not indicate anything remotely close to such a large number of casualties. I say it again: "if you try to frame our operation there as an invasion, our task is simple: "we will open the doors and send 3.6 million migrants to you", Erdogan said in a speech to his party.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said the military meant to move 30 kilometres into northern Syria and that its operation would last until all "terrorists are neutralised".

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the war, said Turkish forces seized two villages near Ras al Ain and five near Tel Abyad.

The Syrian Kurdish fighters, along with United States troops, have been involved in mopping up operations against IS fighters still holed up in the desert after their territorial hold was toppled earlier this year.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday telephoned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to express solidarity and support for Ankara as it faces global pressure over Turkey's ongoing operation against Kurdish forces in Syria.

It wants a 30 kilometre wide buffer zone along the border, which can also serve as an area to repatriate millions of Syrian refugees now living in Turkey. Now the Turkish army enters there, the Kurds are dropping these camps.

"If Daesh [Islamic State] camps or prisons are in the safe zone, we are responsible", he told a rare briefing with worldwide media.

Craft reiterated US President Donald Trump's administration's assertion that the American government "has not in any way endorsed the decision of the Government of Turkey to mount a military incursion into northeast Syria".

Meanwhile tens of thousands of civilians are fleeing their homes, and aid agencies fear the exodus could reach hundreds of thousands. There was no threat to the Turks - none - from this side of the border.
