For years now we have had casting of music, videos and podcasts but there has never been an easy way to transfer the stream from one device to another until now. The same goes for switching devices for music across Chromecast, Google Home, and Google Nest devices.

At launch, these devices include Google Home and Nest smart speakers as well as Google Nest smart displays and Chromecast-equipped TVs.

Move your music with the Google Assistant: Start playing music on the Google Home Mini in your kitchen, and keep the vibe going in the living room. Say you want to move your music with the Google Assistant. A spokesperson told Variety that it will bring the feature to third-party smart displays in the coming months, and that it was working on bringing it to additional devices, including Android TVs, in the future.

Stream transfer is compatible with all streaming audio apps and YouTube for video and will start rolling out to all Chromecasts and Google Home and Nest smart speakers and displays today. If you prefer to use the Google Home app instead, tap the cast button that will allow you to see all the devices in your home, then choose which device or group you wish to move your music to. It can be set up through the Google Home app.

Google's latest Assistant update can let you move music and YouTube videos between devices such as the Nest Hub Max.

If you've set up groups, meanwhile - such as several smart speakers in one room, or a group for the whole house - it's possible to transfer music to and from that collection of speakers.

This new Stream transfer feature works with popular apps including YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, Pandora, and more. As for video streaming, the only app listed that is specifically called out for compatibility is YouTube - so it's unclear if this will be available for other video streaming services.
