In a post on the official DOOMTwitter page, id Software said that the decision to delay DOOM Eternal was made to ensure the game meets id's "standards of speed and polish".

The Doom Eternal release date has been postponed, it seems. That is, of course, assuming that Bethesda and id Software stick to this new release date and don't hit any new roadblocks on the path to DOOM Eternal's March launch.
Invasion Mode, which lets you enter another player's game as a playable demon, will be added to Doom Eternal shortly after launch.
With twice as many demons being featured in the sequel as its predecessor, there will be new enemy types including The Marauder and Doom Hunter, while also featuring the returns of previous franchise enemies Pain Elemental, Arachnotron and Archville.
Doom Eternal will now be released for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Google Stadia on March 20, 2020.
In an open letter from legendary developer id Software shared by DOOM publisher Bethesda, the studio confirmed that a DOOM Eternal delay will see the game slip from its planned November 22 launch into March of next year.
