Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday morning took a walk down the beach in Mamallapuram where he stayed for nearly half an hour.

Mr. Modi and Mr. Xi had also urged the special representatives of the two countries to "continue their efforts to arrive at a mutually-agreed framework for a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement [of outstanding issues including on the boundary question] based on Political Parameters and Guiding Principles that were agreed by the two sides in 2005", the MEA said in its release.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday gifted a handmade large sized silk shawl to Chinese President Xi Jinping on the concluding day of their two day informal summit here.

Narendra Modi has reiterated that differences should not escalate into disputes between India and China, adding that the two Asian giants have so far successfully implemented a vision adopted during the Wuhan Informal Summit.

Mr. Modi and Mr. Xi also agreed to explore the possibility of forming a "manufacturing partnership" through the proposed mechanism.

The two leaders exchanged views on the age-old commercial linkages and people-to-people contacts between India and China in the past two millennia, including significant maritime contacts.

Modi told Xi that the Group of Monuments at Mahabalipuram is an outstanding example of India's cultural heritage and architecture, and witnessed India and China's civilization exchanges and historical connections for more than a dozen centuries.

There was an acknowledgement that both India and China were "very complex and very diverse countries" and both would work together so that radicalization and terrorism did not affect their multicultural, multiethnic and multireligious societies, Gokhale said.

"The two leaders agreed that China and India should respect and learn from each other so as to jointly achieve common development and prosperity, as well as the great rejuvenation of the two civilizations", it said. Xi said both were welcome.

This is the second "informal" meeting between the leaders after their interaction in Wuhan in April past year.

Modi said both countries have made a decision to be sensitive to each other's concerns as he and Xi sat down for delegation-level talks on Saturday in the seaside temple town of Mamallapuram.

In his opening remarks, Xi said he had a free and frank discussion with Modi and would pursue proposals the two leaders discussed to improve bilateral ties.

"India-China relations are not predicated to a single issue", Gokhale said, adding that the latest developments in Kashmir were an internal matter of India. "I think this number can easily be multiplied at least fivefold if not tenfold in just the coming few years", he said.

The development assumed importance in the light of India repeatedly expressing concern about its trade deficit of more than $50 billion with China.

In the talks, the two leaders carried out a brief review of ongoing cooperation in areas of defence and security and Xi talked about the need for boosting the engagement further, foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale said addressing a press conference at the end of the summit here on Saturday.
