Cain Velasquez Reportedly Signs Multi-Year WWE Deal, Retires from UFC

NewsBrock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez Tyson Fury vs. Braun Strowman Set for WWE Crown Jewel By Andrew Ravens

Cain Velasquez is leaving the MMA world behind him after signing a multi-year WWE contract. Cain has been removed from UFC's USADA drug testing pool and from the UFC heavyweight rankings.

That set the stage for WWE to announce today that Velasquez will wrestle Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel on October 31st in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Speaking after the announcement of the fight, Fury said: "It's something I've always dreamed of, lifelong WWE fan, it's a fantastic opportunity for me to be here". Fury is expected to return to the boxing ring in 2020 for a fight against Deontay Wilder, a rematch from their December 2018 bout.

According to Velasquez, his journey started in February when he attended the WWE's "Elimination Chamber" event along with teammate and then-UFC champ Daniel Cormier. Last month, Fury sustained a severe cut above his right eye in a twelve round decision win over Otto Wallin.

'I'm undefeated in 30 professional contests and when I go to Saudi Arabia to fight Braun Strowman I'm still going to be undefeated. Although security prevented the two men from coming to blows on Friday night, Monday Night Raw saw them come face-to-face.

With his signing, Velasquez joins the likes of Lesnar and Ronda Rousey as former UFC champions on the WWE roster.

Velasquez, the two-time UFC heavyweight champion whose never-ending streak of injuries prevented him from fulfilling his potential as the greatest fighter the division has ever seen, will officially never get that chance.

"This is definitely my focus", Velasquez told ESPN last week. I haven't seen them excited over something like this in a while.
