Advance polls open this weekend for federal election

The Elections Canada distribution centre is shown in Ottawa on Thursday, Aug 29, 2019.

If you have not registered to vote in the upcoming election, there are a number of ways to do so.

Voters can find the address of their assigned polling station on the back of their voter information card, by visiting and punching in their postal code or by calling 1-800-463-6868.

Hollick notes that while he's expecting a steady turn out for the coming four days, his office has been taking voters since the election was called last month.

It's easy! All you have to do is take a picture of your photo ID and confirm your address with Elections Canada before October 15.

The qualification for voting in an election is simple.

The general voting day is October 21.

For those who won't be able to vote on either the federal election day, October 21, or in the advance polls, there are other options.

Advance polls are open across the North Shore from 9:00 9:00 p.m. The voucher must have proof of identity and address with them.

Otherwise, voters can visit their polling stations and register in person on election day on October 21 provided they have proper identification.

In the 2015 federal election, 23.2 per cent of ballots were cast in Nanaimo-Ladysmith ahead of general voting day.

Voting as part of the Vote on Campus program is done with a special ballot.

A photo identification with a name and current address such as an Ontario Driver's Licence is all that is needed.

The Research Co. poll found 58 per cent agree with declaring election day a public holiday in Canada. A total of 3.6 million people cast ballots in advance polls in Canada.

The country's top court ruled the restriction unconstitutional and the Canada Elections Act was subsequently amended to adjust for the change in Bill C-76.
