Howard, 50, did not share why he made a decision to quit and did not elaborate on what career he plans to pursue instead.

In an interview with Additional on the set of the Fox drama, Howard informed correspondent and present Miss USA Cheslie Kryst that he's "finished with appearing" after "Empire" wraps manufacturing.

"I'm done with acting", he told "Extra".

The sixth season of Empire premieres Tuesday, September 24 at 9 p.m ET on FOX.

Is philanthropy on Howard's mind? "I will omit them a colossal deal, and the crew". "I'm done pretending." Asked if he'd like to focus on philanthropy or something else instead of acting, the longtime actor said: "No, not philanthropy; I'm just focusing on bringing the truth to the world". But he did mention that he will miss his "Empire" castmates very much, including embattled actor Jussie Smollett.

The announcement arrives months after he was reportedly being investigated for criminal tax evasion.
