No Indian Institute In Top 300 In World University Ranking

Maynooth University climbs ranks in top 350 universities in the world

Professor Louise Richardson, Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University, said: "We are absolutely delighted to have retained our position at the top of the Times Higher Education world university rankings for a fourth consecutive year".

The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020 has the University of Toronto at spot 18 on the list, just making its way into the top 20.

Even as India dropped out of the top 300, it increased its representation in the rankings from 49 universities past year to 56 this time.

Among those that made their debut in World University Rankings are IIT-Ropar, Institute of Chemical Technology, IIT-Gandhinagar, IIT-Patna, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Anna University, Banasthali University, Delhi Technological University, University of Mumbai and Siksha "O" Anusandhan.

"The 2020 rankings are our most competitive ever, with elite universities around the world coming under intense pressure to maintain their standing", said Phil Baty, THE Chief Knowledge Officer. The latest Canadian university rankings aren't the best in the world but we're still getting recognized on the worldwide stage.

In the top 20, most schools are located in either the USA or the UK.

With the increase in the number of Indian Universities in the Overall. However, it is disappointing to see the country fall out of the top 300 of the rankings these years, with only a small number of institutions registering progress.

However, it just needs to back these aspirations with high levels of investment - or risk declining further amid increasing global competition, especially from other parts of Asia.

The table is based on 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators which are grouped into five areas of Teaching (the learning environment); Research (volume, income and reputation); Citations (research influence); global outlook (staff, students and research); and Industry Income (knowledge transfer)./. The university also did well nationally, gaining six places to land 42 position among United Kingdom universities, indicating a climb in the tables on both fronts.
