Missing Indiana girl found dead in shed; stepmom charged with murder

The search for a missing 10-year-old girl from IN came to a tragic end after her body was found IN a shed behind her home and her stepmother was arrested for her murder, officials said.

According to a release by the Indiana State Police, she was found at around 3 a.m. Wednesday.

Police believe Skylea was already dead when her stepmother, Amanda Carmack, reported her missing Saturday night from the home.

She had been missing since Saturday.

State police and online records show Carmack is being held on preliminary charges of murder, neglect, strangulation and domestic battery.

Slocum explained that preliminary evidence points to Skylea being killed Saturday between 4:30 and 6:30 PM; preliminary evidence indicates that she was strangled.

If you have any information on Skylea Rayn Carmack, contact the Indiana State Police at 765-473-6666, Gas City Police Department at 765-674-2278 or 911. He believes his daughter ran away because she was grounded and upset about it. Tony Slocum said in a press conference.

Indiana State Police issued a Silver Alert on Sunday, September 1.

"And it just went a little too far and she got stuck and now she's just scared to come home cause she's afraid now she is going to be in even more trouble", he predicted.

Adding: "There is no rational answer for why anyone would kill a 10-year-old".

"We are still remaining optimistic until something changes", he said.
