Lionel Messi Wins FIFA Player Of The Year

But with the Argentinian returning to the top of the game once again, the remarkable dominance of the Messi-Ronaldo axis returned to FIFA's awards, with the Best Men's Player award being won by either Messi or Ronaldo each year since 2007, bar just one - last season, when Real Madrid playmaker Luka Modric surprisingly won the award.

Lionel Messi won the Men's player of the year at the FIFA Football awards.

She shared the tournament Golden Boot with teammate Morgan, the pair netting six apiece after the latter scored five versus Thailand in the pools.

Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk have been named in the FIFA FIFPro Men's World11 for 2019. Ronaldo won for 2016 and 2017, with Croatian Luka Modric beating both previous year.

In a weird incident, Alisson's name was read out at the FIFA Best Awards in Milan but stars including his manager Jurgen Klopp and ex-England boss Fabio Capello were left looking around the room in bemusement as he failed to emerge.

"I have to say thank you to my outstanding club Liverpool FC, to the owners, I have to say they gave me an incredible team, and I have to thank my team, because as a coach you only can be as good as your team is. As professional footballers. we have so much success, we have incredible platforms, I ask everybody here to lend your platform, to lift people up, to use this attractive game to change the world for better".

"We have incredible platforms, the unique opportunity to use this to actually change the world for the better". "I'm really proud of being coach of such an incredible bunch of players".

Meanwhile, the best coach award went to Jill Ellis, who made history at the World Cup.

Megan Rapinoe beat fellow World Cup victor Alex Morgan and England's Lucy Bronze to the women's prize, with her United States of America coach Jill Ellis lifting the women's coaching award.

The 53-year-old Ellis was named coach of the US team in 2014 and led it to eight overall tournament titles, including back-to-back World Cup successes.
