Koulibaly spoils Napoli comeback party, as Juventus win 4-3

Matthijs De Ligt had a night to forget against Napoli in his Juventus debut

Losing 3-0 with 62 minutes played, Napoli needed two quick fire goals from Kostas Manolas and debutant Hirving Lozano in the 66th and 68th minute to make the game 3-2.

What was a gut-wrenching loss for the Gli Azzurri against the title favorites also proved to feature plenty of silver linings, including Di Lorenzo and Konstantinos Manolas, who both scored two games into their Napoli careers.

However, Juventus assistant manager Martusciello, who was standing in for the ill Maurizio Sarri on the touchline, believes De Ligt's performance was due to a lack of condition rather than ability.

Juventus assistant Giovanni Martusciello admitted that Matthijs de Ligt needs more time to adapt after a hard debut in Serie A.

"Perhaps we were too confident after the 3-0, we let Napoli fight back".

De Ligt sat out Juve's opening day of the season against Parma but with Giorgio Chiellini out injured against Napoli the 20-year-old made his debut, however the £67.5 million summer signing had a bad day. "I want to focus on the very positive performance in the first hour, but some fear set in after they got back into it".

De Ligt was already in the spotlight for the game.

"We allowed Juve to press us, Fabian Ruiz was left isolated throughout the first half and we never found him, because the spaces to go on the counter were there, we just didn't use them".

And nearly inevitably the Azzurri equalised from the resulting free-kick and once again it was De Ligt who was too easily beaten to the ball, this time by Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

Algeria midfielder Ismael Bennacer got his first start and good work by Suso ensured Milan gained an early advantage.

However, it's worth remembering that even Ronaldo didn't the ground running.

"He has arrived in a hard league like Serie A from a very different team, but he has a great deal of quality, is very intelligent and will learn quickly".

Asked about De Ligt especially, he then added, "He is a little behind when it comes to learning our system". We were hoping for more time to get him used to it, but Chiellini's injury forced us to change our plans.
