Jets sign kicker Sam Ficken to replace ineffective Kaare Vedvik

Two former star NFL kickers crush Jets over their self-made mess of a kicking game

The New York Jets have changed kickers.

The Jets have been searching for a reliable kicker after allowing Jason Myers, who made the Pro Bowl last season, to leave as a free agent and sign a four-year, $15.45 million contract with Seattle in March.

The Jets signed Ficken to be their new kicker Tuesday and bounced Kaare Vedvik, who missed a 45-yard field goal and an extra point in Sunday's 17-16 loss to the Bills. The Jets signed him after staging a five-kicker tryout Tuesday morning. After Vedvik missed a field goal and an extra point attempt during the Jets' 17-16 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1, NY waived him and signed Sam Ficken on Tuesday to be their new kicker moving forward.

Next up on the Jets' constantly spinning kicking carousel: Sam Ficken.

Jets head coach Adam Gase expressed his frustration in his team's kicking performance after NY lost by a point in their season-opener.

But even before his retirement, the issue started way back in March when the team made a decision to let Pro Bowler Jason Myers walk after a career year. We haven't performed well.

Chandler Catanzaro spent the spring and the beginning of training camp with the team, but retired after missing two extra points in the first preseason game. "We're going to try to figure out a way to fix it". Taylor Bertolet replaced him, but also had issues.

Vedvik was coveted by teams in need of kicking help after impressing as Justin Tucker's preseason backup with the Baltimore Ravens.

"That was a long time ago", Gase said. I'm not talking about what happened in the past.
