IDF confirms: Israeli drone fell in Gaza Strip

Later Saturday, a drone launched from southern Gaza crossed into Israeli airspace, the army said in a separate statement. The reasons are now being investigated.

The strikes were in response to a drone attack from Gaza. It "dropped what seems to be an explosive device" near the security fence, damaging a military vehicle before returning to Gaza.

Local news sites reported that an Israeli "quad-copter" drone had been targeted.

Tensions between the Israelis and the Palestinians near the Gaza border have been mounting for months. Hours later, Palestinian militants fired five rockets at southern Israel, hitting open fields, and Israel attacked Hamas positions in response, according to the army.

They also said that Hamas was in possession of the drone. Palestinians have been holding regular mass protests along the fortified border since March 2018. The Israeli authorities have been blaming Hamas for Gaza residents' aggressive actions toward Israel.

Haniyeh said the US-planned "deal of the century" sought to consolidate the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and kill the Palestinian cause, adding that so-called deal was based on three issues, "targeting of al-Quds, targeting the refugees' right of return, and targeting and controlling the occupied West Bank". The truce was negotiated by Egyptian and United Nations officials with aid from Qatar to end several severe flare-ups of violence in recent months.

Hamas, which rules Gaza, does not mind the escalation, either because it can not stop it and because it too is under Iran's influence, or because it is turning a blind eye since it is disappointed with the pace in which the settlement with Israel is being implemented.
