Here's Everything Apple Announced Today, From New iPhones to Its Netflix Competitor

Apple's new U1 chip hints at future Tile-like tracking system

[Animation: courtesy of Apple] Along with Quick Take, the new iPhones also support the sometimes silly photos people like to share on social media with a new photo feature-which the company chose to preemptively dub the "slofie"-that lets you take slow-motion video using your front-facing camera".

Machine learning also affects the video to ensure all three cameras work together properly and create the best and smoothest possible video.

It was high time for Apple to tweak the way its Camera app looks and works. Now we hear about the big daddy of the iPhone 11 range, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

In true 2019 fashion, the iPhone 11 Pro added a third lens to its repertoire - a 12MP ultrawide lens, capturing a 120-degree field of view.

Such a lens is already present on a wave of rival Android devices such as the Huawei P30 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S10 and the OnePlus 7 Pro to name a few. And more competition is coming, with Disney and WarnerMedia offering their services later this year or next. It also features a front-facing portrait mode and slo-mo video capabilities in the front-facing camera.

What's clear is that both phones have built out the variety of shots you can take, which is a win-win for everyone.

Picking between Apple's new iPhone 11 models will in part depend on what you intend to do with a smartphone targeting professionals like artists, cinematographers, and other creatively-minded individuals. Both of those come with what Apple refers to as the "Super Retina HDR", which means the phone supports HDR 10, Dolby Vision, plus Dolby Atmos. Inside all three is the new A13 Bionic chip, speeding up tasks like natural language processing, and providing a smoother experience when it comes to augmented reality apps, all while using less power.

The cheaper iPhone 11 ($699 and up) doesn't do much to change the formula when it comes to what people consider an iPhone. This has been interpreted as a reference to the Apple Tags tracking tiles, which went unmentioned at the September event - but in any case, it's additional tech that lets devices running on the the cohesive iOS ecosystem to play even nicer with each other.

The Samsung Galaxy S10 packs either the Snapdragon 855 chip in the United States or the Exynos 9820 in the rest of the world - both powerful processors, and the best you can get in an Android phone outside of the odd mid-year upgrade Snapdragon 855 Plus.

Apple also gave more details on its Apple TV Plus streaming service, announcing its November 1 launch and showing off trailers for upcoming shows, including the Jason Momoa-led "See". The iPhone 11, for example, claims an extra hour of battery life compared to the iPhone XR, while the larger 11 Pro Max claims an extra five hours when pitted against the iPhone XS Max. Most notable is the new triple-camera setup on the rear of these two devices, enabling "pro photography", according to Apple's Phil Schiller. Which ones will be ready by then?
