"Gully Boy" Is India's Official Entry For The Oscars

While this news is elating, we're still waiting to get a reaction from Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and Zoya Akhtar.

Director Zoya Akhtar's musical drama Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt has been selected as India's official entry to the Academy Awards in the foreign film category for next year. Last year, Kamrupi Assamese language film Village Rockstars was selected as India's official entry to the 91st Academy Awards, but didn't make it to the nominations. Gully Boy was based around the lives of underground rappers, Divine and Naezy and the youth related to it more than any other feature film in a very long time.

Meanwhile, Kalki Koechlin, who also starred in the film, tweeted, "Wow!"

There were critically acclaimed films like "Andhadhun", "Badla", "Article 15" in the race, but finally, "Gully Boy" was the chosen movie officially for the Oscar entry from India. "Woweeeeeeeee! That is just the best Saturday evening news!" she tweeted. This year, the selection comittee was lead by actor-filmmaker Aparna Sen.
