No cause of death has been released.

In this video first shared by his wife Beth McLeod in 2016, sportscaster Fred McLeod is shown celebrating the Cleveland Cavaliers' NBA title win.

It was a defining moment in his career-Fred McLeod making the legendary call that the Cleveland Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA Championship, ending a long 52-year drought.

A native of Strongsville, OH, McLeod was 57 and had spent almost four decades in broadcasting.

"He was a true, heart-felt ambassador for the team, fans and entire greater Cleveland community", the team said in a statement.

He played both baseball and basketball.

A graduate of Point Place College in Pittsburgh, McLeod took jobs in St. Joseph, MO and Steubenville, OH before WJKW in Cleveland in 1979, becoming the play-by-play man for the Indians.

An Ohio native, McLeod served as the Cavaliers television play-by-play announcer on FOX Sports Ohio since the 2006 season.

After WJW, McLeod spent time working in San Francisco and then eventually became the announcer for the Detroit Pistons, a position he held until he came home to Cleveland. While calling the action for his hometown team, he has since coined many signature calls like "Right down Euclid!" He was just named the new play-by-play voice for the Lions' preseason games this year.

"The entire Detroit Lions organization extends its heartfelt sympathies and condolences to his wife, Beth, his family and members of the TV broadcast community he helped mentor for more than four decades".
