Cristiano Ronaldo Breaks Another European Record

Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes The First Player To Score Against 40 Different Countries

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo took his global goals tally to 93 when he scored four times to give the European champions a 5-1 win away to Lithuania in their Euro 2020 qualifier on Tuesday.

It was an eighth worldwide hat-trick for 34-year-old Ronaldo, who also scored four against Andorra in 2016.

He has now scored 93 worldwide goals overall, with 25 of them coming during qualifiers for Uefa European Championships - more than any other player in history.

The victory saw Portugal cement second place in Group B of the Euro 2022 qualifiers, with eight points from four games.

Portugal cast itself a Euro 2020 qualifying safety net thanks to a deep run in the Nations League last spring. Ronaldo converted a penalty for his opener in the seventh minute, but Lithuania's Vytautas Andriuškevičius knotted the score at 1-1 in the 28th minute. The one in the 61st minute, which snapped a 1-1 draw, was a gift from Lithuania goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus, who went to ground to stop a relatively routine long-range shot from Ronaldo, only to have it bounce of him and into the goal.

William Carvalho finished off the scoring in stoppage time, helping Portugal wrap up a flawless global window with the win.

Portugal host Luxembourg and visit group leaders Ukraine next month.
