Classic rock singer Eddie Money dies at 70

Eddie Money

LOS ANGELES- Eddie Money passed away on Friday at the age of 70, TMZ reported. His biggest hit, however, came a decade later when "Take Me Home Tonight" peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. "It's so hard to imagine our world without him, however he will live on forever through his music", the Money family's statement read.

Singer Eddie Money has reportedly died after a battle with stage 4 esophageal cancer.

"I thought I was just going in to get a checkup, and he told me I got cancer", Money said on his reality show "Real Money". He said the disease had spread to his liver and lymph nodes. He had taken time off from performing due to other health issues, including developing pneumonia while recovering from heart valve surgery.

On top of touring, Money also made a foray into television appearances in the 1990s and 2000s, such as his cameo on the show "King of Queens" in 2002, as well as a stint portraying the character Mimi's ex-husband on "The Drew Carey Show". May God grant you peace.

Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid paid tribute, saying "Rock & Roll People are feeling a pang upon hearing of the death of Eddie Money, because he really was that "Everyman" that much more famous and rich singers and musicians pretend to be, or sing about".

"Take Me Home Tonight", Money's track with arguably the most staying power out of his entire lexicon, is credited by many as the song that saved Money's career in the mid-1980s. His daughter, Jesse Money, made a decision to follow in her father's footsteps as a musician and began joining her father on tour as a backup singer in the latter part of his career. He collaborated with Ronnie Spector for the song.

He opened the music venue now called DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston for 28 straight years dating back to 1992. Meanwhile, "Two Tickets to Paradise" became a favorite on classic rock radio stations and was heard everywhere from "The Simpsons" to "The Office". The overdose left his sciatic nerve, a large nerve travelling down the legs, badly damaged. In 2001, he joins a 12-step program for alcohol/drug addiction recovery. "Every day above ground is a good day".
