Christian Yelich Suffers Fractured Kneecap, Out For Season

The Milwaukee Brewers will have to try and get back to the playoffs without their MVP.

Christian Yelich's season came to a shocking end Tuesday night when he fractured his right kneecap on a foul ball. The team announced immediately after the game that he's lost for the season. "He'll need some further diagnostic imaging tomorrow in Milwaukee, then (he'll) meet with our doctors and plot a plan going forward".

The injury occurred in the first inning against the Marlins in Miami. He went straight to the ground and stayed there for a while before gingerly walking off the field on his own power.

General manager David Stearns said the injury is a "gut punch". "So not being able to see that everyday is definitely no good".

"We feel bad for Christian", Counsell said.

This will cut short a phenomenal season for Yelich, who may have been on his way to Most Valuable Player honors in the National League for the second straight year (and could still win the award).

The reigning MVP, Yelich entered tonight's game batting.330 with 44 home runs and an OPS over 1,100. He now leads the NL in OBP, slugging, OPS, and WAR.
