Trump did not say where these immigrants to the Bahamas were coming from, but many Haitians live in the islands, especially on now-devastated Great Abaco.

Dorian hit the archipelago September 1 as a Category 5 hurricane, with sustained winds of 185 miles per hour and gusts over 220 miles per hour.

While power has returned to much of Grand Bahama, Smith says that the electrical infrastructure around Marsh Harbour, Abaco's largest city, was destroyed. 'Any of the things you would normally do in a response are going to be 10 times harder because the systems that support them do not exist anymore'.

The Bahamas, an archipelago of more than 700 islands, are used to hurricanes - though nothing like Dorian, Hicks said.

That is up from the last-reported figure of 45, Carl Smith, a spokesman for the islands' National Emergency Management Agency, told reporters. Houses are flattened and heaps of rubble are spread over a wide area.

The press release added that hurricane relief efforts from the US continue with US Charge d'Affaires Stephanie Bowers, US Northern Command Commander General Terrence J O'Shaughnessy, and US Coast Guard District 7 Commander Rear Admiral Eric Jones, along with Bahamian officials recently conducting air assessments of affected areas to refine disaster relief needs.

The two centers, one to the north of the town, the other to the south, will provide temporary housing to people who wish to rebuild their homes on the island, he said.

The American Red Cross is donating $2 million to help individuals impacted by Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas.

Brother's Brother is working with two local partners, the Florida-based Food For The Poor and Puerto Rico Rises.

"About 1,050 active-duty service members were involved in Bahamas relief as of Monday, with an additional 150 notified that they could be called to help, Kunze said".
