Why Some People Are Boycotting Equinox

Jim Harbaugh catches flak for praising Trump supporter Stephen Ross

Ross, the billionaire owner of Equinox and SoulCycle, has faced a backlash for hosting a fundraiser for President Trump.

In Chrissy Teigen's video, she asks for her close friends and family to cancel their memberships to the Equinox and the other gym.

The scheduled fundraiser also caught the attention of Miami Dolphins wide receiver and Trump critic Kenny Stills.

Another commented, "Quit supporting Trump!"

Of course, the page has been archived by the famous Wayback Machine, one of the internet's best resources, so you can see all the companies Ross owns here. In response to the vast outrage, Equinox and SoulCycle issued similar statements, saying that the companies don't support the event and attempting to distance themselves from Ross. "As is consistent with our policies, no company profits are used to fund politicians", the companies said in a statement. "We want all of our members to have a sense of comfortability and acceptance the second they walk through our doors".

Activist and actor Wilson Cruz launched a Change.org campaign and wrote, "We joined this gym because we believed it shared our values".

In the statement, Ross said he's known Trump for 40 years, and "while we agree on some issues, we strongly disagree on many others, and I have never been bashful about expressing my opinions".

Andrés, meanwhile, posted a video on Twitter this morning urging Ross to "use your conscience" and cancel the fundraiser.

Equinox, which has publicly branded itself as an LGBTQ-friendly company, and Pure Yoga are especially popular in the LGBTQ community.

Brzezinski, on Thursday, suggested that Ross' fundraiser showed that he didn't have a "soul".

The gay and transgender community are hardest hit, apparently.

Controversy erupted across social media after the Washington Post reported on Tuesday of a fundraising luncheon for Trump to be held at Ross's home.

But the biggest draw will be Trump himself. Based in New York City, it is a global real estate development firm that Ross set up in 1972.

Tickets to that event range from $5,600 per couple to attend the general reception, $11,200 per couple for the VIP reception and $35,000 per couple for a photo opp. Proceeds will be going towards Trump Victory, a committee raising money for the 2020 election and Republican National Committee.
