Volkswagen To Reveal New Logo At The 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show

VWs rebranding will be one of the largest operations of this type in the industry world-wide

The new presentation will not only be bolder and more colorful but will also be digitally oriented from the brand logo through to the world of images. Furthermore, in an attempt to put as much distance as possible from the cheating emissions scandal, it will change its logo too.

VW claims that the new logo will be more modern, clearer and simpler.

Volkswagen will unveil a redesigned logo as part of the automaker's major rebranding at this year's Frankfurt motor show, coinciding with the launch of the new VW ID 3 electric hatchback.

The rebranding will coincide with the launch of the ID 3, the first production vehicle based on the Volkswagen Group's fully electric MEB platform.

We're sweating bullets not because we think Volkswagen's new badge will be bad, but because its logo is about as iconic as logos come-almost if not on a par with the likes of McDonald's Golden Arches and Coca Cola's red and white. The design was implemented with the full integration of all departments of the company in the record time of nine months using a powerhouse concept developed by Volkswagen especially for this objective.

Volkswagen marketing boss Jochen Sengpiehl said that the current "3D" logo had "become a bit heavy, somewhat immobile, especially in today's digital era". He added: "The new logo has been reduced to its essential components". It's flat, open, full of contrast and clearly perceived.

Volkswagen has embraced electrification and will be taking an important step into the future by launching the ID sub-brand.

"What began as a fundamental crisis turned out to be a catalyst for the transformation of Volkswagen", said Brandstätter. An innovation to move with the times and not get stuck in the past. The strategic transformation with a reorientation of content and sustainable products, initiated nearly 4 years ago, is now to become visible with the new brand design. It will allow more flexible use and will be outstandingly recognizable in digital media. At the more than 10,000 facilities of dealers and service partners throughout the world, about 70,000 logos will be replaced. The brand is unveiling its new look at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show, and we're kind of anxious.
