Scottish Gossip: Neil Lennon, Celtic, Rangers, Hearts, Hibernian

Celtic and Cluj will battle it out for a spot against Slavia Prague

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic are among a host of European giants to be knocked out of the Champions League during the third qualifying round, while last season's semi-finalists Ajax needed a late comeback to edge past Greek side PAOK.

Celtic are out of the Champions League after an abject showing at Parkhead last night against Romanian side CFR Cluj.

Aberdeen goalkeeper and captain Joe Lewis is convinced his side have the character to overcome their 2-0 first-leg defeat when they meet Croatian outfit Rijeka in the second leg of their Europa League qualifier on Thursday at Pittodrie.

One fan tweeted (unedited): "LENNON come on to f**k your to blame you played McGregor at LB didn't you learn when BR played him n look you've made him look terrible when he's a magnificent players tell ya some of the players even @ScottBrown8 need to say to lennon hes to blame this time".

The fourth goal is academic because we are trying to throw everything at them to get an equaliser.

"You've got to do the basics well - you've got to stop crosses, close people down, get your head on things - and it was nearly as if we scored and wanted to switch off and control the game".

Lennon's men will now face either Sheriff Tiraspol of Moldova, or AIK of Sweden in the Europa League play-off round.

"The first half we were so passive, no tempo, I don't know where that came from".

"We need a miracle to qualify".

The player away the penalty for Cluj's second goal with a handball that wasn't befetting of an experienced player and captain. We got a warning beforehand and didn't stop the cross and then we do the exact same thing again. We've only ourselves to blame.

Celtic are back in action on Saturday against Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup.
