Pakistan suspends Thar Express over India's Kashmir move

After Samjhauta Pakistan To Halt Thar Express Over Centre's Kashmir Move

Service was later resumed in 2014 but again suspended after the assassination of Pakistani leader Benazir Bhutto. It had halted the Samjhauta Express, connecting national capital Delhi with the Pakistani city of Lahore, yesterday.

In line with the decisions of NSC Pak-India bus service is suspended.

"The people who had already purchased their tickets can get their money reimbursed from Lahore DS office", Pakistan Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said.

The Superintendent of Attari Railway station, Arvind Kumar Gupta, said that the train was scheduled to reach India on early Thursday afternoon but reached Attari station only by evening after an Indian crew - with an engine - brought it back. Its suspension follows Islamabad's discontinuation of Samjhauta and Thar Express train services between the two countries.

The Samjhauta Express, named after the Hindi word for "agreement", comprises six sleeper coaches and an AC 3-tier coach. Pakistan stopped Samjhauta Express on their side at Wagah border on August 08, 2019 citing security concerns.

"When we received the information from the Pakistani authorities at around 2:14 pm, we assured them that there are no security concerns and the train should come here".

This is Pakistan's latest move to act against the interests of India after the Narendra Modi-led BJP government abrogated provisions of Article 370 that gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir, bifurcating the state into union territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The MEA said the Constitution was, is and would always be a sovereign matter and recent developments pertaining to Article 370 were entirely India's "internal affair".

The Pakistan Army said on Friday that if there is an attempt by India to undertake any "misadventure", then its response will be "even stronger than that of February 27", as tensions escalate between the two neighbours after Article 370 revoked by India government.

Ghafoor also dismissed a statement by the Indian Chinar Corps commander - in which he accused Pakistan of being "involved in disrupting the peace in Kashmir Valley" - as "usual blatant lies".
