Iran's president says 'talks are useless' in dealing with US

Unveiling new missile system, Iran's president says talks with US are 'useless'

The remarks came against the backdrop of increased tensions between Iran and the U.S. after the Islamic Republic shot down an advanced United States spy drone over its territorial waters.

According to the Press TV, Bavar-373 is a mobile defense system and capable of intercepting and destroying hostile targets flying at altitudes of up to 27 km.

The Wednesday report says the Bavar-373 is a long-range surface-to-air missile system able to recognize up to 100 targets at a same time and confront them with six different weapons.

It is not clear why the same weapons system is unveiled for a second time, again in Rouhani's presence.

Iran has unveiled a state-of-the-art missile defense system designed and manufactured by experts at home as the Islamic Republic marks National Defense Industry Day. He also hinted at a final "complete" unveiling sometime in the future.

Meanwhile, Iran is prepared to work on French proposals to salvage the worldwide nuclear deal it signed with world powers in 2015, its Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said on Thursday.

Snort television showed President Hassan Rouhani attending an unveiling ceremony for the cell Bavar-373 system, which Iranian media absorb described as a competitor to the Russian S-300 missile system.

The US re-imposed sanctions on Iran after the Trump administration pulled out of the nuclear deal previous year over concerns about Iran's missile program and regional influence. Tehran said the drone was over Iranian territory, but Washington insisted that the unmanned plane was over worldwide waters when it was targeted.

"There are proposals on the table, both from the French and the Iranian side, and we are going to work on those proposals tomorrow", he said at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs.

Speaking at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, Zarif said he was looking forward to having a serious conversation with Macron in Paris on Friday.

Zarif also warned against USA efforts to create a security mission, which, so far, Britain, Australia, and Bahrain have joined, to guard shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital gateway for global oil supplies.

Iran's president said that talks with the U.S. on the country's nuclear deal are useless.

"Will there be a war in the Persian Gulf?"
