Ewan McGregor Returning to 'Star Wars' for Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Series

Ewan McGregor Returning to 'Star Wars' for Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ Series

The star is reportedly in talks to to reprise his role as the renowned Jedi master Obi-Wan Kenobi for a Disney Plus series, Variety confirmed. Lucasfilm are involved in both.

Disney will open the door to its new Disney+ streaming service in November, giving subscribers exclusive access to a live-action Star Wars TV show called The Mandalorian, which is already scheduled for a second season.

This is the third "Star Wars" series in development at Disney's forthcoming streaming service, which launches later this year.

Do you want to see Ewan McGregor return as Obi-Wan Kenobi?

Is an Obi-Wan Kenobi show in the offing at Disney+? A standalone film featuring the character was reportedly in the works previous year with McGregor and director Stephen Daldry (The Reader) attached.

Luke isn't the only original trilogy character who could show up in the Obi-Wan series. McGregor previously played the character in the three Star Wars prequel films released from 1999 to 2005. He also had a super-quick voiceover appearance in 2015's The Force Awakens, so it was clear that the Scottish actor's relationship with Lucasfilm was still a strong one. But it is expected that plans for Disney+ will be announced during preview presentations at Disney's D23 later this month.

No plot details or release date that we know of, just a confirmation that it's happening, and McGregor might come back. McGregor is set to star in DC's Birds of Prey film as Black Mask, and also in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep. With McGregor aboard, the future of Star Wars is looking bright.

This is great news for Star Wars fans. He earned an Emmy nomination for the dual role, and took home the Golden Globe for best actor in a limited series or TV movie.
