Dale Earnhardt Jr. Plans to Race Next Week, Despite Plane Crash Injuries

Dale Earnhardt Jr. plans to race next week at Darlington which makes for a must-watch race for NASCAR fans

But despite these questions, he has made clear that he still plans on driving in this race, although he does have a Plan B.

Earnhardt posted a tweet late Wednesday addressing speculation he would bow out of the NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Darlington Raceway next week in SC.

Earnhardt, who was in a plane crash last week along with his wife, daughter and two pilots, said he's still hurting from the wreck but plans to take the wheel of a auto in the Xfinity Series on August 31.

Earnhardt Jr. posted his update on Twitter late Wednesday night, saying his lower back is sore and swollen.

"Plenty of swelling and I simply want that to go down and the ache to relax out".

Earnhardt's appearance in this race is set to be his second one-off appearance in the Xfinity Series since he retired from full-time Cup Series competition at the end of the 2017 season.

This Plan B is simply somebody else driving the #8 Chevrolet that he is set to drive for JR Motorsports, the team that he co-owns in the series. I been treating the area every day exclusively to get well to race.

"I can confirm Dale, Amy & Isla along with his two pilots were involved in a crash in Bristol TN this afternoon. Cortizone shot?" to which Earnhardt responded, "Someone else drives the vehicle".

Investigators say Earnhardt's Cessna bounced on a runway twice before skidding through a fence and catching fire as the passengers jumped from a cabin door. With respect to the investigation, we will not be speculating or discussing the cause of the accident. For the last five years, Darlington Raceway has hosted the "Official Throwback Weekend of NASCAR" where drivers and their cars adopt paint schemes paying homage to iconic drivers from days gone by.

Earnhardt and his family, along with his two pilots, escaped serious injury in the accident.
