Christian Eriksen unfazed by Tottenham exit talk, says Mauricio Pochettino

Mauricio Pochettino is happy with his selection choices

"I always tell the player to not be affected by the rumours", he added. I understand the club, I understand the player.

Eriksen said at the end of last season that he was keen for a new challenge.

He has been heavily linked by the Spanish media with a move to Real Madrid before the European transfer window closes on Sep. 2.

He said: "It's not the best situation for him [Eriksen] and for everyone".

"I think it was a good opportunity for him to build his fitness and have a proper pre-season which sometimes when you're involved in competition is hard".

"Always I am open to help the club and to help the decision of Daniel [Levy]", the manager said. I know really well that decisions like this are not easy but I always try to be in the position to take the best benefit for the club. "You can not put a finger on the problem", Pochettino added. "We can't hide the problem, but we must reduce it", Mauricio Pochettino in a press conference about the Dane's hard situation in London.

"He is handling it naturally, you can try to help as it is an important player in the dressing room". And for the player, too.

"Because the pre-season is so important for every player, but sometimes the priority is holidays and this type of situation with him it was so clear that he was going to be suspended for two games and the plan was to provide him with good quality training to improve in different areas - and when the moment he is available to play to be in the flawless condition".

Wanyama is no longer a key member of the Tottenham squad and the club have been looking to find a buyer for the midfielder all summer.

He admits that the midfielder has been unlucky with injuries but conceded that other players have stepped up to take his place in the team. We are happy in the last few weeks he was unbelievable in the way he was available to train and compete in every single training session and I hope it's going to help the team from now. I am the coach and need to take the decision.

"I am making clear the answer is not about Victor, but we are not a charity - it is about performance and the coaching staff have a lot of different options to play different players". Victor is a very important player and, for different circumstances, went backwards.
