Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum will retire from all forms of cricket when the Global T20 Canada league finishes this weekend, bringing the curtain down on a 20-year professional career, the 37-year-old said on Monday.

McCullum has been an in-demand T20 cricketer since his worldwide retirement, with stints in the IPL with Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore, Brisbane Heat in the Big Bash, Lahore Qalandars in the PSL and Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL.

Brendon McCullum, who is now playing in the Global T20 tournament in Canada has confirmed that he will retire from all forms of cricket after this tournament. "I now won't be playing in the Euro T20 Slam and I sincerely thank the organisers for their support and understanding of my decision", McCullum an official statement on his twitter page.

He will continue coaching and commentating after joining the Sky Sport commentary team for the upcoming summer.

The 37-year-old, who made his global debut 2004 chose to retire from worldwide cricket in 2016 after playing 101 Tests, 260 ODIs and 71 T20I matches for New Zealand.

McCullum had led the Kiwi side to the finals of the 2015 World Cup. McCullum scored his Test runs at an impressive strike rate of 64.6. My style of cricket has been full of noise, full throttle.

"I owe it to myself and the teams I represent to close that chapter rather than just plough on regardless of what I know to be true", he wrote. "It's been one hell of a ride but I've always maintained that all good things must come to an end", added McCullum. However, the attacking batsman was seen playing for different franchises in T20 leagues across the globe. "In T20 cricket, I have enjoyed so many varied challenges, I can leave the game knowing I left no stone unturned".

He retired from the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year and announced his retirement from Big Bash League earlier this year.
