Bolivian President Evo Morales on Sunday said he welcomes global aid to fight the wildfires that have been blazing in the country since last week. "The only offer that has been paid to the foreign ministry has come from the United States and they offered us experts", Foreign Minister Diego Pary said.
On Sunday during a re-election campaign, Morales focused on the wildfires in the country. Intense blazes have burned unabated across vast swathes of hilly tropical forest and savannah near Bolivia's border with Paraguay and Brazil.
"We have been in contact with Peru, Chile, Argentina, France, Germany, Spain, Russia, the United States and with worldwide organizations", such as the Latin American Development Bank (CAF), Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Pary told reporters.
A US-based Boeing 747-400 firefighting plane was sent to Bolivia last week. Although the Brazilian Army aircraft extinguish fire in the most affected areas, the number of fires is increasing, according to the BGNES.
Political rivals accused Morales of a slow response.
While fires in Brazil have captured the world's attention, Bolivia has been fighting its own blazes that Mr Morales said Tuesday had destroyed 1.2 million hectares, or more than 4,000 square miles of forest and grassland, since May.
The blazes have almost doubled this year compared with the same period in 2018, prompting global outrage.
Bolivia has lost almost a million hectares of vegetation in a transition zone between its Chaco and Amazon forests, according to local media.
