BethesdaNet login no longer required for Doom 1-2 players on consoles

DOOM login

The games (alongside Doom 3) themselves were a welcome sight on the eShop, but for many fans it was quite disheartening to find that they couldn't be played unless users were logged into their Bethesda.net user accounts.

The patch also removes the disconnection notification during gameplay should your system lose internet access.

As we've briefly covered before, Bethesda ruffled some feathers with the ports of the classic DOOM games. Let us know what you think of them in the comments!

However, players quickly became agitated upon learning that the Switch versions of the games had a mandatory "sign in to your Bethesda.net account" screen with no way of circumventing it. That was a one-time thing; after that first login, you could play offline normally.

A re-release of Doom 1 and Doom 2 landed on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4 back in July, enabling players to relive the iconic FPS all over again.

Bethesda has also said that it is working on "a more permanent fix to further reduce the visibility of the optional login" but it doesn't have a release window for that yet. "Thank you for your feedback!" It's so that you can make use of your Slayers Club membership, if you have one.
